covid-19 precautions

After the news that gyms and fitness studios can reopen from 25th July, we are very excited to be opening our doors on Monday 27th July! As excited as we are, there is so much that we have been trying to get our head around in terms of government guidance over the past few weeks, it is safe to say it is an absolute minefield! Our top priority is to keep our customers and staff safe and we do not want to take any risks; we have therefore undertaken an extensive COVID-19 risk assessment for the studio. We completely understand that some of you may feel nervous coming to the studio as restrictions start to lift, so we have written this blog to let you know the measures we have in place and what you can expect to see when you attend the studio and hopefully this will put your mind at ease.

  1. We ask that you bring your own mat and equipment to the studio if you have them. If you would like to purchase your own mat we recommend ‘Ekotex’ or ‘Yoga Matters’ sticky mats which are both great quality mats and are priced between £16-£20. If you do not have your own mat or equipment you may use the studio mats which will be thoroughly cleaned before and after use, however we are trying to limit the amount of people who use them. If you would like a blanket or anything else to make you comfortable for relaxation (Savasana) please bring these from home as we will not be providing them. For Candlelit Restorative yoga we ask that you bring a towel from home to cover the bolster, and recommend bringing your own blanket/cushions to be extra cosy.
  2. We ask that if you or anyone you live with have a temperature or are unwell in any way that you do not attend your class and let us know as soon as possible.
  3. Our studio is small enough for us to thoroughly clean and ventilate it in between each class. There will be a minimum of 30 minutes between all our classes to enable us to have sufficient time to do this before the next class. There will be a sign on our front door asking you to wait in your cars or socially distanced from others outside until we open the door 5 minutes before your scheduled class and invite you in one at a time. Due to this we ask that you arrive just 5 minutes before your scheduled class (no earlier or later).
  4. To start with, class numbers will be less than half our full capacity and we are only allowing 6 people in each class distanced at 2m apart; this is to give you the best and safest possible yoga experience. We are erring on the side of caution and having minimum numbers and keeping the full 2m between people until it is safe to exercise with more people indoors. We will also have tape on the floor to mark out the 2m and where each mat needs to be placed and ask that you respect social distancing with our other customers and staff.
  5. We have installed professional HEPA UV air filters approved by the British Allergen Foundation throughout the studio which kill bacteria and viruses. During more active classes we will be ventilating the studio with fresh air throughout classes and in more relaxing classes we will be ventilating with fresh air in between classes.
  6. We ask that you only bring the things you need for your class into the studio, i.e no bags or coats etc. Please bring your own water as water and tea will not be provided at the studio at this time.
  7. Although we would love nothing more than to have a cuppa and a chat with you all after class, we unfortunately can’t at the moment and ask that you leave promptly (one at a time!) after class to allow us enough time to clean the studio before the next class. Once things start to become more ‘normal’, we will have a cuppa and chat after all our classes as we really want to get to know you all and create a yoga community here in East Leeds!
  8. We have our Mindbody booking system in place so all our classes/courses/workshops are pre-booked and we are able to keep track of everyone who attends. We will not be taking any cash payments (other than our opening charity week where your cash will be placed straight in a charity box after class with hand sanitiser available afterwards!).
  9. There will be sanitiser stations around the studio and we ask that you use this upon entering and as much as you feel necessary throughout your visit. Our toilet will be open and will be deep cleaned between classes; however we ask that you get changed at home before the class to avoid using the toilet as a changing room and thoroughly wash your hands after using the toilet.
  10. In yoga we breath through the nose, this type of breathing actually kills bacteria and viruses and so we ask that you only breathe this way during your class (don’t worry if you are a beginner, we will teach you this on your first week!). If you start to feel breathless during your class, ensure you take a rest to prevent breathing through your mouth.

We will continue to monitor all government guidance and will enhance our safety measures as necessary. If there is anything you would like to know in the meantime please send us a message. We hope this post has answered some of your questions and puts your mind at ease and we can’t wait to welcome you into our studio very soon!
